12.3  It  is clear from the plain reading of sub­section (2A) of  section 7 of PP Act that it permits charging of compound interest( as  amended in the year 2015) at the rate not exceeding the "current rate" of  interest   being   paid   on   deposits,   by   the   scheduled   banks.   Further,   the  Hon'ble High Court in  Vivek Sondhi Vs. NDMC 2003(67) DRJ 142,  held that the Estate Officer cannot pass an order for payment of interest  more than the current rate within the meaning of Section 2(b) of Interest  Act 1978.
