20. It is true that this Court had earlier directed the release of various
convict prisoners under G.O. (Ms.) No.64, Home (Prison-IV) Department
dated 01.02.2018, which orders were challenged in the Supreme Court in
State v H. Nilofer Nisha (2020) 4 SCC 161, wherein, the Supreme Court
set aside the orders passed by this Court, but, proceeded to exercise its
powers under 142 of the Constitution of India on a case-to-case basis and

directed release of the convict prisoners therein. We are afraid, we are not
clothed with the power of the Supreme Court under Article 142, ibid., to
engage in such an exercise.
