Section 498-A of the Indian Penal Code ( IPC )
criminalizes cruelty by a husband or his relatives
against a married woman ... receiving a large
number of cases emanating from section 498-
A of the Penal Code, 1860 which reads as
under:
"498-A. Husband
offence under Section 306 I.P.C. and three years rigorous imprisonment for the offence under Section 498-A I.P.C.

which reads as under:

Section 109 IPC and were acquitted under Section 248(1) Cr.P.C ... P1); pursuant
to directions of this Court, an FIR (Ex.P2) was registered on 20.06.2007
under Sections 498-A and 506(i) IPC

such is not defined in the Penal Code. The Court analysing further
in the context of Section 498-A observed that the mere fact that ... such high degree of mental cruelty the Explanation (a) to
Section 498-A IPC which includes cruelty to drive the woman to commit
offences under Sections 406 / 34 / 498-A of
the Indian Penal Code, 1860 (' IPC ') and Section 4 of the Dowry Prohibition ... a criminal offence; or (c) a civil wrong as also
