Section 498-A of the Indian Penal Code ( IPC )
criminalizes cruelty by a husband or his relatives
against a married woman ... receiving a large
number of cases emanating from section 498-
A of the Penal Code, 1860 which reads as
under:
"498-A. Husband
offence under Section 306 I.P.C. and three years rigorous imprisonment for the offence under Section 498-A I.P.C.
