Section 84 in The Haryana New Mandi Townships Building Rules, 1967

84. Design and construction of septic tank - [Section 4(2)(1)(1)].

(1)Every person who shall install a septic tank in connection with a building or other premises shall construct such septic tank of good brick work in cement properly rendered inside with cement and with a backing of at least 23 centimetres (nine inches) of well puddled day or atleast 15 centimetre (5.906") of good cement concrete around and beneath such brickwork, or shall otherwise construct such septic tank of suitable material and so as to be impervious to liquids, to the satisfaction of the Administrator.
(2)He shall cause such septic tank to be provided or otherwise properly covered over, and to be provided with adequate means of ventilation.
(3)He shall cause such septic tank to be provided with an adequate means of access for inspection and cleaning each manhole being fitted with a suitable cast iron frame and air tight cover.
(4)He shall cause the inlet pipe into such septic tank to be effectually trapped.
(5)He shall cause every septic tank to be constructed so as to permit of cleaning operations being carried out thereinto without interference with the operations being carried out thereinto without interference with the operations of water borne sanitary installation as a whole. He shall cause every septic tank intended to serve a population of 24 or more persons to be constructed into two separate compartments so that one compartment, may when required be put out of use for cleaning purposes.
(6)He shall cause each septic tank compartment to have an effective treatment capacity in cubic feet below its full supply level of not less than the maximum number of residents of the building for which the septic tank is installed multiplied by 2½.
