(2)[ It extends to the whole of the [State of Tamil Nadu] [Substituted for the original sub-section (2) by section 3 of the Tamil Nadu District Municipalities (Amendment) Act, 1930 (Tamil Nadu Act X of 1930)], except the City of [Chennai] [Substituted for the word 'Madras' by the City of Madras (Alteration of Name) Act, 1996 (Tamil Nadu Act 28 of 1996)]].
