Section 1 in Tamil Nadu District Municipalities Act, 1920
1. Title and extent.
(1)This Act may be called the [Tamil Nadu] [Substituted for the word 'Madras' by the Tamil Nadu Adaptation of Laws Order, 1969, as amended by the Tamil Nadu Adaptation of Laws (Second Amendment) Order, 1969, which came into force on the 14th January 1969] District Municipalities Act, 1920.(2)[ It extends to the whole of the [State of Tamil Nadu] [Substituted for the original sub-section (2) by section 3 of the Tamil Nadu District Municipalities (Amendment) Act, 1930 (Tamil Nadu Act X of 1930)], except the City of [Chennai] [Substituted for the word 'Madras' by the City of Madras (Alteration of Name) Act, 1996 (Tamil Nadu Act 28 of 1996)]].
