45. Superintendence of State Police to vest in the State Government.
(1)The State Government shall ensure an efficient, effective, responsive and accountable Police Service for the entire State and for this purpose, the superintendence of the Police Service throughout the State shall vest in and be exercised by the State Government in accordance with the provisions of this Act.(2)The State Government shall exercise its superintendence over the Police Service so as to promote the professional efficiency of the Police and to ensure that Police performance is at all times in accordance with the law, and shall lay down policies and guidelines, set standards for quality policing, facilitate their implementation and ensure that the police force performs its duties in a professional manner with functional autonomy.
