8. Constitution of Mayor-in- Council.
(1)There shall be a Mayor-in-Council consisting of the Mayor, the Deputy Mayor and such number of other elected members of the Corporation, not exceeding five, as the State Government may from time to time determine.(2)The Deputy Mayor and other elected members referred to in sub-section (1) shall be nominated by the Mayor as soon as possible after he assumes office.(3)Any casual vacancy in the office of the Deputy Mayor or other member referred to in sub-section (1) by reason of death, resignation, removal or otherwise shall be filled up by the Mayor:Provided that no act or proceedings of the Mayor-in-Council shall be called in question or shall become invalid merely by reason of any vacancy in the office of the Deputy Mayor or other members referred to in sub-section (1).(4)The manner of transaction of business of the Mayor-in-Council shall be such as may be determined by the Corporation by regulations.(5)The Mayor-in-Council shall be collectively responsible to the Corporation.
