Section 249(1) in The Gujarat Provincial Municipal Corporations Act, 1949
(1)The Commissioner shall,-(a)take measures for lighting in a suitable manner the public streets, municipal gardens and open spaces and municipal markets and all buildings vesting in the Corporation;(b)procure, erect and maintain such number of lamps, lamp-posts and other appurtenances as may be necessary for the said purpose; and(c)cause such lamps to be lighted by means of oil, gas, electricity or such other light as the Corporation shall from time to time determine.
