8. [ Duration of voters' list and its revision. [Substituted by Notification No. 53-XVIII-III-95, dated 18-10-1995.]

(1)The voters' list referred to in sub-rule (4) of Rule 6 shall remain in force until revised under sub-rule (2) or sub-rule (3).
(2)Every such list shall he liable to revision by reference to the first day of January of the year in which it is so revised
(i)before each General Election to the Municipalities or as the case may be;
(ii)before each bye-election to fill a scat in a Municipality.
(3)Notwithstanding anything contained in sub-rule (2) it shall not be necessary to revise the voters' list before any bye-election which is held during the calendar year in relation to the first day of January whereof the list has been originally prepared :Provided that the Election Commission may, for reasons considered sufficient by it, direct special revision of the voters' list before holding a bye-election.
(4)Notwithstanding anything contained in the foregoing provisions, the validity or continued operation of the voters' list referred to in sub-rule (4) of Rule 6 shall not in any way be affected by non-revision of any such list under sub-rule (2) or when so directed by the Election Commission under proviso to sub-rule (3).]
