Section 41B in THE PUNJAB MUNICIPAL CORPORATION LAW (EXTENSION TO CHANDIGARH) ACT, 1994
41B. Chairperson of Wards Committee.―
(1)The Wards Committee shall, at its first meeting in each year, elect one of its members who is a councillor to be Chairperson:Provided that where a Wards Committee consists of one ward only, the councillor representing that ward in the Corporation shall be the Chairperson of that Committee.(2)The Chairperson of the Wards Committee shall hold office from the date of his election until the election of his successor in office unless in the meantime, he resigns his office as Chairperson.(3)On the occurrence of any casual vacancy in the office of the Chairperson, the Wards Committee shall, within one month of occurrence of such a vacancy, elect one of its members who is a councillor as Chairperson:Provided that where a vacancy has arisen on the resignation or death of the only councillor on the Committee, the Administrator may appoint any other councillor as Chairperson of the Ward Committee till election is held to fill the vacancy in due course.
