Section 3(3)(a) in The Assam Technical Education Service Rules, 1981

(a)The cadres of Professor, Assistant Professor, Head of Department Polytechnic and Lecturer of Engineering Colleges as well as of Polytechnic shall have subject-wise branches and each branch shall be deemed to constitute a separate cadre.
