Section 56(i) in The Medical Council Of India Regulations, 2000
(i)carry out comprehensive inspection of the medical colleges, associated training institutions, hospitals and other teaching centres to ascertain that the standards or facilities provided therein in regard to staff, equipment and academic ambience and other teaching and training of undergraduate and post-graduate courses including research, conforms to the standards laid down by the Council;
