Section 45(1) in The Naval Ceremonial, Conditions Of Service And Miscellaneous Regulations, 1964
| (a)President of a Republic or Chief of a State and the like –In the case of a foreign President of a Republic or Chief of aState and a Royal personage | Theensign of the nation of such President of Republic or Chief ofState, personage and the like, shall be hoisted at the main, ifnecessary alongside the President's standard, flag or broadpendant which may already be hoisted in that position. |
| (b)National Ensign – On arrival at a foreign port. | Theensign of the nation which is being saluted shall be hoisted atthe main during the salute, if necessary alongside President'sstandard, flag or broad pendant which may already be hoisted inthat position. |
| (c)ForeignFlag Officer – When meeting a foreign Flag Officer or whenreturning the salute of any foreign Flag Officer or ship of war. | Theensign of the foreign nation shall be hoisted at the fore duringthe salute or return salute, if necessary alongside any flag orbroad pendant which may already be hoisted in that position. |
| (d)Visits of Foreign Authorities – On the occasion of visitsfrom Governors General, Governors or Officers administering aGovernment, Diplomatic, Naval Army, Air or Consular Authoritiesor of persons of High Distinction entitled to salutes. | Theensign of the foreign nation to which the person saluted belongsshall be hoisted at the fore during the personal salute, ifnecessary alongside any flag or broad pendant which may alreadybe hoisted in that position. |
