Section 13 in The Chennai City Corporation Building Rules, 1972

13. Floors.

(1)The floors of every building must be constructed to bear safely the maximum load to be carried, the allowance for live load not being less than two hundred and seventy three kilograms and four hundred and sixteen grams per square metre.
(2)Terraced roofs must be constructed to withstand such load, not less than two hundred and forty four kilograms and one hundred and twenty one grams per square metre in addition to their own weight, as may be specified by the Engineer.
(3)All beams and girders in a building must be supported by a breadth of brickwork, stone or other solid substance sufficient to secure their stability.
(4)The bearing of a beam girder on a wall shall not, without the sanction of the Engineer, be less than three fourths of the thickness of the wall.
