Sir, in 1992, I was sitting on the last bench. When Dr. Manmohan Singh announced the economic reforms, he said – Mr. Deputy Speaker, sir, you were also there in this House— "the IMF and the World Bank are putting a lot of restrictions on the subsidies. So, in a phased programme of three years, we must remove these subsidies from the farming sector". He said this in this very august House. On that day, I sat on a dharna, for the first time in my 4-1/2 decades of public life near the Speaker’s podium – Either in the Legislature or Parliament. I was sitting here only. Shri L.K. Advani, the present Deputy Prime Minister, and Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee, the present Prime Minister, were sitting here and Shri P.V. Narasimha Rao, the then Prime Minister was sitting there. Nobody bothered. My dharnawas insignificant on that day. Today, every one of you must forget your political affiliations -- realise in your heart how the rural condition is. I am not going to say that nobody is committed.
