Subbaraya Mudali And Ors. vs The Sub-Collector Of Chingleput And ... on 30 April, 1883

"It may be that no one can advance in a civil Court any claim against the Crown or any one claiming under it, to the grant to him, under the darkhast rules, of land for which he has applied to the Revenue authorities under those rules -- ('Subbaraya v. Sub Collector, Chingleput', 6 Mad. 303).... But when a person claims that a grant has been made to him by an officer on behalf of the Crown, the mere fact that the alleged grant purports to have been made under the darkhast rules does not affect the jurisdiction of civil Courts to determine whether a grant has been made which would bind the Crown or anyone claiming under it subsequent to such grant.
