hardship to the assessees and which made the
provision unworkable or unjust in a specific
situation. Accordingly, the court held that
order to prevent a
provision from being unintelligible, absurd,
unreasonable, unworkable or totally irreconcilable
with the rest of the statute' is to be considered
provision would render
the statutory provisions either nugatory or totally unworkable.
14. Insofar the ratio laid down in Gopidas (supra) is
concerned, it is trite
