20. Offences and penalties. -
(1)Whoever :-(a)in contravention of the provisions of this Act, the rules or the regulations made under this Act, engages in the business of distribution or supply of water or(b)refuses or fails without reasonable cause to comply with, or give effect to, any direction, order or requirement made under this Act;shall be guilty of an offence under this Act.(2)Any person guilty of an offence under clause (a) of sub-section (1), shall be punished with imprisonment which may extend to one year or with fine which may extend to rupees one lakh, or with both, and a further penalty which may extend to rupees twenty thousand for each day after the first offence during which the offence continues.(3)Any person guilty of an offence under clause (b) of sub-section (1) shall be punished with imprisonment which may extend to six months or with fine which may extend to rupees one lakh, or with both, and a further penalty which may extend to rupees five thousand for each day after the first offence during which the offence continues.
