(11)to hold examinations including University Entrance examination and confer degrees, diplomas and other academic distinctions on persons who-(a)have pursued approved courses of study in the University, or in an affiliated college or in recognised institution unless exempted therefrom in the manner prescribed by the [Statutes, Ordinances or Regulations] [These words were substituted for the words 'Statutes and Ordinances', by Gujarat 8 of 1966, Section 5(2)(i)] and have passed the examinations prescribed by the University; or(b)have carried on research under conditions prescribed by the Ordinances [and regulations] [These words were inserted, by Gujarat 8 of 1966, Section 5(2) (ii).];
