The Police (East Punjab Amendments) Act, 1948East Punjab Act 30 of 1948Statements of Objects and Reasons. - The Police (Punjab Amendment Act, 1947, was promulgated under section 93 of the Government of India Act, 1935 when the Governor of Punjab had assumed to himself all powers vested by or under the said Act in the Provincial Legislature. It will remain in force upto the 13th August, 1949 under Article 6 of the India (Provisional Constitution) Order, 1947.This Act was promulgated as it was considered doubtful whether punishments of forfeiture of approved service or stoppage of increment of subordinate police personnel were covered by section 7 of the Police Act, and is required to be continued after the 13th August, 1949 to legalise such punishments after that date also.East Punjab Government Gazette Extraordinary, date the 21st September, 1948.Received the assent of His Excellency the Governor of the East Punjab on the 4th November, 1948, and was first published in the East Punjab Gazette Extraordinary, dated the 9th November, 1948.An Act to amend the Police Act, 1861.It is hereby enacted as follows :-

1. Short title and commencement.

(1)This Act may be called the Police (East Punjab Amendments) Act, 1948.
(2)It shall be deemed to have come into force on the commencement of the Police Act, 1861 (hereinafter referred to as the said Act)

2. Amendment of section 7 Act V of 1961.

- In section 7 of the said Act-
(a)after the words "dismiss, suspend or reduce" the words "either in rank or within a time-scale" shall be inserted; and
(b)after the existing clause (d), the following clause shall added namely, ;
"(e) stoppage of increments."

3. Repeal of Punjab Act XIII of 1947.

- The police (Punjab Amendment) Act, 1947, is hereby repealed.
