Section 168 in The Haryana Motor Vehicles Rules, 1993
168. Projection of loads.
[Section 138(2)(i)]. - (1) Nothing shall be placed or carried upon the outside of the roof of a double decked public service vehicle.(2)No person shall derive and no person shall cause or allow to be driven in any public place any motor vehicle which is loaded in a manner likely to cause danger or injury to any person or in such a manner that the load or any part thereof or anything extends, -(a)laterally beyond the side of the body or beyond a vertical plain in prolongation of the side of the body;(b)to the front beyond the foremost part of the vehicle;(c)to the rear to a distance exceeding 1.2 metres beyond the rear- most part of the vehicle excluding luggage carrier; and(d)in height by a distance which exceeds 3.4 metres from the surface upon which the motor vehicle rests.(3)The provisions of clause (c) of sub-rule (2) shall not apply to goods carriage when loaded with any pole or other projecting things so long as :-(a)the projecting load falls within the limits of the body of a trailor being drawn by the goods carriage; or(b)the distance by which the pole or other thing projects beyond the rear- most point of the motor vehicle does not exceed 1.8 metres; and(c)there is attached to the rear of such pole or other thing in such a way as to be clearly visible from the rear at all times white circular disc of not less than 375 millimetres in diameter and, at night a lamp in addition to the specified lamps on the vehicle so arranged as to show a red light to the rear.(4)A Regional Transport Authority or its officer if so authorised by it may, by an order in writing, in emergent cases, exempt any motor vehicle for such period and subject to such conditions as may be specified, from any or all the provisions of this rule.
