Section 202(10) in The Naval Ceremonial, Conditions Of Service And Miscellaneous Regulations, 1964
(10)Subject to the provisions of sub-regulation (9) :(a)the acting rank of Lieutenant-Commander shall be held by officers at all times, whether on duty or on leave/furlough, and(b)except as provided in sub-regulations (12) to (16), acting ranks of Commander and above shall be held by officers only so long as they actually perform the duties of the appointment for which the higher rank was granted.
