Section 37 in The Merchant Shipping (Prevention of Pollution by Oil from Ships) Rules, 2010

37. Shipboard Oil Pollution Emergency Plan.

(1)Every oil tanker of one hundred and fifty gross tonnage and above and every ship other than an oil tanker of four hundred gross tonnage and above shall carry on board a shipboard oil pollution emergency plan approved by the Central Government.
(2)The plan referred to in sub, rule (1) shall be in accordance with the guidelines for, the development of shipboard oil pollution emergency plans adopted by the Organization and includes any document amending it which is considered by the Central Government to be relevant from time to time and the plan shall consist at least-
(a)the procedure to be followed by the Master or other, persons having charge of the ship to report an oil pollution incident as required by the Convention;
(b)the list of persons (including national and local authorities) to be contacted in the event of an oil pollution incident;
(c)a detailed description of the action to be taken immediately by persons on board to reduce or control the discharge of oil following the incident; and
(d)the procedures and point of contact on the ship for coordinating shipboard action with national and local authorities in combating the pollution.
(3)In, case of ships to which the provisions of rule 17 of the Merchant Shipping (Control of Pollution by Noxious liquid Substances in Bulk) Rules, 2009 also applies, the plan referred to in sub-rule (I) may be combined with the shipboard marine pollution emergency plan for noxious liquid substances required under the said rule 17 and the title of such a plan shall be "Shipboard marine pollution emergency plan".
(4)All oil tankers of five thousand tonnes deadweight or more shall have prompt access to computerized shore-based damage stability and residual structural strength calculation programmes.Chapter - VI Reception Facilities
