Section 25(2) in The Calcutta University Act, 1979.
(2)(a)The Council for Undergraduate Studies in Arts, Science, Commerce, Home Science, Fine Arts and Music shall consist of the following members:-(i)the Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Academic Affairs-Chairman;(ii)the Principal, Presidency College;(iii)the Principal, Sanskrit College;(iiia)[ the Deans of the Faculty Councils for Post-Graduate Studies in Arts, Science, and Commerce, Social Welfare and Business Management;] [Sub-clause (iiia) inserted by W.B. Act 44 of 1980:](iv)thirteen Teachers, other than Principals, of affiliated colleges participating in undergraduate teaching in the subject or subjects concerned of whom not more than three shall be from each of the Arts, Science and Commerce streams of education and at least one shall be from each of the other streams to be elected in the manner provided in the Statutes;(v)[ five Principals of affiliated colleges, of whom-] [Sub-Clauses (v) and (vi) substituted by W.B. Act 44 of 1980.](a)one shall be a Principal imparting instruction in Undergraduate Studies in Arts, Home Science, Fine Arts and Music,(b)one shall be a Principal imparting instruction in Undergraduate Studies in Science,(c)one shall be a Principal imparting instruction in Undergraduate Studies in Commerce,(d)one shall be a Principal imparting instruction in Undergraduate Studies in Medicine, Dental Science, Homoeopathy, Veterinary Science, Nursing and Ayurved, and(e)one shall be a Principal imparting instruction in Undergraduate Studies in Engineering and Technology, elected form amongst the Principals of such colleges in the manner provided in the Statutes;(vi)[ three members, one each from the Faculty Councils for Postgraduate Studies in-] [Sub-Clauses (v) and (vi) substituted by W.B. Act 44 of 1980.](a)Arts,(b)Science, and(c)Commerce, Social Welfare and Business Management, elected in the manner provided in the Statutes.(d)The Council shall have a Secretary. The Secretary shall be a member of the Council.(vii)[ three student representatives pursuing Undergraduate studies in different streams of education in the affiliated colleges of the University to be elected by such students from amongst themselves in the manner as may be prescribed by the statutes: [Inserted by Act No. 12 of 2011, dated 25.1.2012.]Provided that no two student representatives shall be elected from the same stream of education.]
