Section 155 in The Naval Ceremonial, Conditions Of Service And Miscellaneous Regulations, 1964

155. Promotion of Officers from the rank of Lieutenant and above.-

(a)from Lieutenant to Lieutenant-Commander.-On attaining 8 years' seniority in the rank of Lieutenant.
(b)from Lieutenant-Commander to Commander.
(i)By Selection. - By selection from officers who have attained 2 years' seniority but not more than 8 years' seniority in the rank of Lieutenant-Commander. An officer should have served afloat for at least one year in the rank of Lieutenant-Commander or Acting Lieutenant-Commander.
Explanation. - [(1) The condition of afloat service in this clause shall not apply to officers permanently employed on Naval provost duties.] [Renumbered & Inserted by S.R.O. 362, dated 30th October, 1967][Explanation [Renumbered & Inserted by S.R.O. 362, dated 30th October, 1967] 2. - In the case of officers employed on armament inspection duties, this clause shall have effect subject to the modifications that.-
(i)the conditions of afloat service shall not apply, and
(ii)the maximum period of seniority in the rank of Lieutenant Commander shall be 10 years instead of 8 years.]
(iii)By Time Scale.-In accordance with Regulation 151.
(c)from Lieutenant to Lieutenant-Commander and above. - Officers attained 4 years' seniority in the rank of Commander. An officer should have served afloat for at least one year in the rank of Commander or Acting Commander.
(d)from Captain to Rear-Admiral. - By selection from officers of the rank of Captain.
