Section 3(1) in The Assam Engineering (Public Works Department) Service Rules, 1978
(1)The service shall consist of the following classes and cadres :(a)Class I (Senior Grade) : It shall include the cadres/posts-(i)Secretary, P.W.D.(ii)Deputy Secretary, P.W.D. equivalent to the rank of Superintending Engineer, P.W.D.(iii)Chief Engineer, P.W.D.(iv)Additional Chief Engineer, P.W.D.(v)Superintending Engineer, P.W.D.(vi)Director, Road Research Laboratory.(vii)Senior Architect in the rank of Superintending Engineer, P.W.D.(b)Class I (Jr. Grade) : It shall include the cadres-(i)Under-Secretary equivalent to the rank of Executive Engineer;(ii)Executive Engineer, P.W.D.(iii)Architect.(iv)Research Officer, Road Research Laboratory, P.W.D.(v)Assistant Executive Engineer/Assistant Director-cum-Assistant. Executive Engineer, Road Research Laboratory.(vi)Deputy Architect, P.W.D.(vii)Assistant Engineer.(viii)Assistant Architect(ix)Assistant Research Officer, R.R.L.
