Section 24 in The Naval Ceremonial, Conditions Of Service And Miscellaneous Regulations, 1964
24. Salutes to Flag.
(1)The flag or broad pendant of the senior Naval authority present (afloat or ashore) shall be saluted as follows:(a)By the next senior officer present:(i)On being first hoisted in the period of the former's new command;(ii)After the flag of the former's new rank has been hoisted on promotion.(b)By a single ship, or by senior officer only of two or more ships of the same fleet or squadron, on meeting or on arrival, subject to clause 3.(c)By a junior Flag Officer or Commodore:(i)After such officer has hoisted his flag or broad pendant in the period of his new command;(ii)After hoisting the flag of his new rank on promotion.(2)These salutes shall be returned according to the scale; But if more than one salute has been fired, the return salute in answer to the whole shall consist of the same number of guns as that to which the officer receiving the salute is entitled.
