Section 2 in The Orissa Forest Shooting Rules, 1973

2. Definition.

- In these rules unless there is anything repugnant in the subject or context-
(a)"Act" means the Orissa Forest Act, 1972;
(b)"Big game" means any wild animal specified in Schedule I;
(c)"Closed season" shall, subject to the period specified in this behalf in Schedule III for animals mentioned therein ordinarily mean the period from 1st May to 31st October of any year;
(d)"Form" means a Form appended to these rules;
(e)"Government" means the Government of Orissa;
(f)"Hunt" means to hunt, kill, or capture any wild animal by any method and includes every attempt to kill or capture it or to take or destroy any part of its body or egg or nest or to disturb its egg or nest;
(g)"Park" means National Park or a State Park declared as such;
(h)"Permit" means a permit granted under these rules;
(i)"Pest" or "vermin" means any wild animal specified in Schedule II
(j)"Protected species" means animals and birds which have been declared as such under the Wild Birds and Animals Protection Act, 1912 (Act VIII of 1912)
(k)"Schedule" means Schedule appended to these rules ,
(l)"Tools" include fire arms, ammunition, torches, spot lights or any other artificial light which can be manipulated to dazzle wild animals khukri, knives, spears, bows, arrows, poisons, anaesthetic or any instrument used to kill or injure or anaesthetise wild animals;
(m)"Trophy" means the durable part of wild animal which has been preserved by any means, whether natural or artificial, and includes the head or horn, tooth, tusk, bone, claw, hoof, skin, hair, feather, egg or nest but dues not include any article manufactured from any such part of the animals;
(n)"Vehicle" means any mechanically or otherwise propelled vehicle and includes boats, rafts and animals used for transport;
(o)"Wild animal" means animal found in the Wild State in the Forests and includes birds and reptiles as also the flesh, blood, fat, horn, skin, bone, tusk, eggs, feather and any other part of such animals, birds and reptiles;
(p)"Wild Life Conservation Officer" means any officer appointed by the Government to be in charge of Wild Life Conservation Division.
