Section 22 in The Burdwan University Act, 1981.

22. Faculty Councils for Post-Graduate Studies.

(1)There shall be the following Councils for Post-Graduate Studies to be known as Faculty Councils: -
(a)Faculty Council for Post-Graduate Studies in Arts., Commerce, Law, Fine Arts, and Music;
(b)Faculty Council for Post-Graduate Studies in Science; [* * *] [Word omitted and words substituted by W.B. Act 12 of 1993.]
(c)Faculty Council for Post-Graduate Studies in Engineering [and Technology; and] [Word omitted and words substituted by W.B. Act 12 of 1993.]
(d)[ Faculty Council for Post-Graduate Studies in Medicine] [Clause (d) and words inserted by W.B. Act 12 of 1993.].
(2)Each Faculty Council for Post-Graduate Studies other than Engineering and Technology [and Medicine] [Clause (d) and words inserted by W.B. Act 12 of 1993.] shall consist of the following members: -
(i)the Vice-Chancellor-Chairman;
(ii)the head or heads of the Department or Departments concerned, if any;
(iii)the Professor or Professors of the Department or Departments concerned, if any;
(iiia)[ the Librarian of the University, if the post is vacant then the person acting as Librarian of the University in the case of the Faculty Council for Post-Graduate Studies in Arts, Commerce, Law, Fine Arts and Music;] [Inserted by Act No. 12 of 2011.]
(iv)Five Teachers participating in Post-Graduate teaching in the subject or subjects concerned of whom -
(a)one shall be from constituent colleges or professional colleges, nominated by the Vice-Chancellor, and
(b)four shall be Teachers of the University, other than Professors, from the Departments under the Faculty Council for Post-Graduate Studies concerned elected jointly by such Teachers from amongst themselves of whom not more than one shall belong to one Department;
(v)one person having special knowledge in the subject or subjects concerned nominated by the Vice-Chancellor;
(vi)three teachers participating in Under-Graduate teaching elected by the members of the Council for Under-Graduate Studies in the subject or subjects concerned.
(vii)[ one student representative pursuing Post-Graduate studies in the University and one research scholar pursuing research in the University to be elected by Post-Graduate students and research scholars respectively from amongst themselves in the manner as may be prescribed in the statutes;] [Inserted by Act No. 12 of 2011.]
(3)[The Faculty Council] [Words substituted by W.B. Act 12 of 1993.] for Post-Graduate Studies in Engineering and Technology shall consist of the following members: -
(i)the Vice-Chancellor-Chairman;
(ii)the Principal, Regional Engineering College, Durgapur;
(iii)the head or heads of the Departments of constituent colleges of Engineering and Technology;
(iv)the Professor or Professors of the Department or Departments of constituent colleges of Engineering;
(v)two teachers other than Professors participating in post-graduate teaching in the subject concerned from the constituent colleges of Engineering elected jointly by teachers of such colleges;
(vi)one person having special knowledge in the subject concerned nominated by the Vice-Chancellor;
(vii)three teachers participating in undergraduate teaching in the subject concerned elected by such teacher-members of the Council for under-graduate studies in Engineering and Technology.
(3A)[ The Faculty Council for Post-Graduate Studies in Medicine shall consist of the following members] [Sub-section (3A) inserted by W.B. Act 12 of 1993.]: -
(i)the Vice-Chancellor-Chairman;
(ii)the Principals of the constituent colleges in which instruction is provided for courses of study in Medicine;
(iii)the head or heads of the Department or Departments participating in post-graduate teaching in constituent colleges in which instruction is provided for courses of study in Medicine;
(iv)the Professor or Professors of the Department or Departments participating in post-graduate teaching in constituent colleges in which instruction is provided for courses of study in Medicine;
(v)three Teachers, other than Professors, participating in postgraduate teaching in the subject or subjects concerned in constituent colleges in which instruction is provided for courses of study in Medicine elected by such Teachers from amongst themselves;
(vi)one person having special knowledge in the subject or subjects concerned nominated by the Vice-Chancellor;
(vii)two Teachers participating in undergraduate teaching in the subject or subjects concerned elected by the Council for Undergraduate Studies in Medicine;
(viii)the Director of Medical Education, Government of West Bengal, or his nominee.
(4)One-third of the total number of members of a Faculty Council for Post-Graduate Studies plus one shall be a quorum for the meeting of the Faculty Council.
(5)Each Faculty Council for Post-Graduate Studies shall have a Secretary to be appointed by the Executive Council.
