Section 37 in The Global Open University (Nagaland) Act, 2006

37. Powers and functions of Academic Council.

(1)The Academic Council shall be the supreme academic body of the University and it shall subject to the provisions of this Act and the regulations made thereunder, have power of control and general regulation in regard to and be responsible for, the maintenance a standards of education instruction and examinations of the University.
(2)The academic council shall,-
(i)make recommendations to the Executive Council with retard to creation, abolition classification and other conditions of service of posts in teaching cadre in the University;
(ii)formulate and modify or revise schemes for the organization of the teaching Departments/faculties, assign subjects to the Departments/faculties and report on the expediency of creation, abolition, division and merger of Departments/faculties;
(iii)make arrangements for instruction and examination of persons other than those enrolled in the University;
(iv)promote research in the University and require, from time to time, reports on such research;
(v)consider proposal submitted by the Departments/faculties;
(vi)appoint Committees for admission to the University;
(vii)recognize diplomas, degrees and other academic distinctions of other Universities and institutions after determining their equivalence to diplomas degrees and other academic distinctions of the University;
(viii)fix the time, mode and conditions of competition of fellowship scholarship and other prizes and award the same;
(ix)make recommendations to the Executive Council in regard to the appointment of examiners and if necessary their removal, and the determination of their fees, emoluments and travelling and other expenses;
(x)make arrangements for the conduct of examinations and fix dates for holding them;
(xi)declare the results of various examinations appoint Committees or officers to do so make recommendations regarding conferment or granting of degrees, honours diplomas licenses titles and marks of honour;
(xii)award stipends, scholarships medals and prizes and make other awards in accordance with the regulations and such other conditions as may be attached to the awards;
(xiii)publish lists of prescribed or recommended text books and syllabus for courses and programmes of study at the University;
(xiv)prepare such forms and registers as are, from time to time, required to be maintained by regulations;
(xv)report on any matter referred or delegated to it by the Governing and Executive Councils;
(xvi)receive periodic reports from the Boards of Studies and make recommendations in regard thereto; and
(xvii)perform all other functions assigned to it by this Act and the regulations made thereunder as well as by the Governing and Executive Councils.
