Section 18 in The U.P. Pravidhik Shiksha (Admission Conduct of Examinations and Conferment of Certificates and Diplomas) Regulations, 1992

18. Session.

(1)The session at the Engineering or Technological institutions affiliated to the Board shall be as follows:
(a)For courses running on Annual Basis-
(i)For the First Year Class:
From the 30 day of declaration of results of entrance examination to May 31 of year next following-
(ii)From the 20th day of declaration of entrance test/merit list for the courses other than under the perview of Joint Entrance Examination Council, to the May 31 of the year next following.
(iii)For Second Year, Third Year in the case of four years (Part time courses) and Final Year Classes or Post Diploma or for the students whose results are declared in accordance with Rule 28 from the 15th day of the declaration of results of I/II/III year classes by the Board of Technical Education, U.P., Lucknow to May 31 of the year next following :
Provided that in a session, an institution is required to complete 24 weeks of study.
(b)For Courses running on Semester Basis :
(i)For I, III and V Semester-From 1st July to 15th November of a calendar year.
(ii)For II, III and V Semester-From 11th day after the completion of examination of I/III/V. Semester or 10th December each year: provided that in each semester an institution is required to complete 12 weeks of training.
(2)The administrative department, however, if required may complete the necessary weeks of training by keeping the institution open on day of holidays/vocation in order to complete the training prior upto 7 days of commencement of examination :Provided that atleast 7 days shall be given to the students for preparation of examination in each session/semester :Provided further that beyond the regular periods of training and extra-curricular activities in a day, the periods of zero hours allotted, if required and if possible, may be calculated towards the requirement of completion of the required seek of training. The principal of the institution in such cases, shall seek permission of Director and the copy of such permission, if accorded should also be intimated to Board.
(3)
(a)Ordinarily no admission in the First Year semester in an affiliated institution shall be alter the commencement of the academic session. However in exceptional cases this may be extended upto 45th day of declaration of the results by Joint Entrance Examination Council, U.P. at Lucknow or entrance test or merit list declared by an institution, so the case may be, in accordance with Regulation 9.
(b)No candidate, who is failure and is, otherwise, eligible for readmission in First Year Class Semester shall have claim to his seat unless he reports himself in person or in writing to Principal of the affiliated institution last attended before the start of the session and deposits the prescribed fee, but not later than the last date prescribed admission of regular students.
(4)The students of all semester/classes shall be promoted to the next higher semester, class after completion of examination conducted as per clause of sub-regulation (3) above and their attendance for next higher class shall be counted from the date of commencement of that session, schedule of which to be approved by the competent authority.
